Insulation package calculator

Estimate package count from net assembly area, labeled package coverage, and allowance.

Direct answer

Multiply net assembly area by one plus explicit waste, divide by the selected package's labeled coverage, and round up. Select R-value and assembly separately through local energy and moisture review.

Formula

Packages = ceiling(area x (1 + waste) / labeled package coverage).

Worked example

1,100 sq ft with 5% allowance is 1,155 sq ft. At 48 sq ft per package, ceiling(24.06) gives 25 packages.

Assumptions

  • All area belongs to one compatible assembly and product.
  • Package coverage comes from the actual label.
  • Waste is user-selected and visible.

Caveats

  • The tool does not choose R-value, material, thickness, vapor control, or fire properties.
  • Framing, compression, gaps, moisture, and installation affect real performance.
  • Local energy and assembly review is required.
