Planning workflow
- Mark each fixture, likely stack zone, service exit, and floor penetration.
- Overlay structure so routes do not silently pass through beams, footings, or inaccessible spaces.
- Track vertical changes and conceptual slope direction without claiming a compliant slope.
- Give the coordinated plan to the plumbing designer and authority having jurisdiction.
Formula or decision logic
A conceptual gravity route must trend from fixture toward discharge and preserve vertical room for a professional-designed slope. If available fall = start elevation - end elevation is nonpositive, the concept is immediately blocked. A positive fall still does not establish acceptable pipe size, slope, venting, or routing.
Worked planning example
A 24-foot conceptual branch has 3 inches of available fall between the fixture zone and the stack. The overlay can report 0.125 inch per foot as a geometric observation. It must not label that value compliant because diameter, fixture load, fittings, local amendments, and vent design remain unknown.
