Planning workflow
- List fixed equipment and likely portable loads by room.
- Place conceptual receptacles, lights, switches, panels, and exterior needs.
- Group routes for coordination only and flag long runs, wet locations, penetrations, and cross-floor transitions.
- Hand the load list and plan to the electrical designer, contractor, and authority having jurisdiction.
Formula or decision logic
A planning load inventory can sum nameplate watts or volt-amperes by category, but that sum is not service or branch-circuit sizing. The professional calculation must apply demand factors, continuous-load treatment, conductor ampacity, voltage drop judgment, fault protection, grounding, and locally adopted requirements.
Worked planning example
A kitchen plan lists a refrigerator, range, dishwasher, disposal, microwave, lighting, and countertop use. It cannot infer that one route or breaker size is safe; those outputs remain deliberately absent.
